21st Century

Shen Xin

Forms Escape: Prologue
Thursday 31 March, 7pm

A presentation by London-based artist Shen Xin, who works primarily with film. In this new work, Shen looks at the practice of Tibetan Buddhism in Europe in relation to what she regards as afflictions of contemporary capitalism’s relationship with power, specifically appropriation, objectification and exploitation. Shen is working with practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism to produce a live event as the prologue to a new moving image work.

Shen has produced an online element of her commission, which is available to view here.

Shen graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2014. She was in residence at Birmingham School of Art and Design, Centre for Chinese Visual Arts in 2015. Recent group exhibitions and events include The Ballad of Generation Y, OCAT, Shanghai; Shoulders of Giants (with Esther Leslie, Hannah Black, Mark Fisher and Simon O’Sullivan), Senate House, London (both 2015); and Bloomberg New Contemporaries, ICA, London (2014).

Chisenhale Gallery’s 21st Century programme 2015-16 is supported by
