From December 2011-August 2012, Benedict Drew worked with Propeller to produce a collaborative artwork, which was presented in the gallery 2 - 26 August 2012.
Using field recordings and audio mapping, Propeller documented their surroundings, questioning the misinterpretations that arise from these translations. In April 2012 an hour-long soundtrack co-produced by Drew and the Propeller members was broadcast on Resonance 104.4 FM. This, as well as interviews, video footage and animations produced during Propeller sessions, will formed the starting point of a new video examining the changing landscape of East London.
Chisenhale Gallery partnered with IKON on Year 2 of their Slow Boat project, this involved Propeller working with Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) to travel up and down to Birmingham by narrow boat in Summer 2012. Arriving in London during the second week of the Olympics, Slow Boat was moored outside Chisenhale for one week of events around the boat. Drew also turned Slow Boat into a sound installation. Using hydrophones, underwater sounds were transmitted inside and outside the boat as it journeys from Birmingham to London.
