Monday 3, Tuesday 4 & Thursday 6 June 3013
In June 2013 Neighbourhood Residency artist Cara Tolmie worked with Year 6 pupils from Wellington Primary School to explore storytelling and performance.
The 3-day workshop series included a visit to Mariana Castillo Deball's exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery and a site-visit to Victoria Park to look at the trees and hidden spaces. Back at school, the pupils created their own 'beastly' and 'fantastical' characters, then explored their character's personality though illustration, costume-making, sound recording and photography.
Cara Tolmie (born 1984, Glasgow) lives and works in London. Recent exhibitions and events include Pley, commissioned and produced by Picture This, Spike Island, Bristol (2013); Vocal Folds, Nasjonal Museet, Oslo (2013); Deep Cuts, Marres, Maastricht (2012); Stages in the Revolution, Whitstable Biennale (2012); Her Noise: Feminisms and the Sonic, Tate Modern (2012); A Sensible Stage, LUX/ICA Biennial of Moving Images, London (2012); Frieze Projects, London (2011); Supplement, London (2011) and Read thou art and read thou shalt remain, Dundee Contemporary Arts (2011).
