How do birds tell the time? And how can we tell the time by birds?
Cathy Haynes, Chisenhale Gallery Victoria Park Residency artist 2013-14 invited Peter Beckenham, ecologist at the London Wildlife Trust, to lead a field study in Victoria Park to experience the most intense dawn chorus of the year.
On the walk he showed us how to distinguish the song patterns of different species and teach us how those patterns change with the seasons, triggered, for example, by the restlessness that prompts swallows to return for Spring. We also explored how the internal clocks of birds and humans might be connected, and how city life may be changing their ancient patterns.
