On Thursday 6 July at 7pm there is a talk by Peter Shand, Head of School, Elam School of Fine Arts, The University of Auckland. All events are free to attend but booking is recommended. A reading list has been compiled in collaboration with Luke Willis Thompson to accompany his exhibition, autoportrait, at Chisenhale Gallery. This resource expands on ideas raised through Thompson’s new commission. Included are news articles and court documents that report on the case of Philando Castile and Diamond Reynolds; essays and books that provide reference and further context to the work; an interview between Thompson and Tobi Haslett; and a review of his most recent work, Cemetery of Uniforms and Liveries (2016), produced during his Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency (2016-17). Chisenhale programme alumni with recently opened exhibitions include Aleksandra Mir at Modern Art Oxford; Donald Rodney at South London Gallery, whose work is included in the group show The Place is Here; Clare Woods at Dundee Contemporary Arts; and Shen Xin, who is in the 89plus exhibition Americans 2017 at LUMA Westbau, Switzerland. Forthcoming Chisenhale Gallery artist Hannah Black is included in the group show Work it, feel it!, Kunsthalle Wien’s contribution to the Vienna Biennale 2017.
