The gallery is currently closed as we prepare for our forthcoming exhibition by artist Lydia Ourahmane. As part of the commissioning process, a programme of events has been devised in collaboration with Lydia Ourahmane. Included is a conversation between Ourahmane and Venetia Porter, Assistant Keeper (Curator), Islamic and contemporary Middle East, at the British Museum on Wednesday 31 January, 7pm; a tour of the exhibition by Caoimhín Mac Giolla Léith, Associate Professor in the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore at University College Dublin on Saturday 24 February, 2pm; a curator’s introduction by Ellen Greig, Curator: Commissions at Chisenhale Gallery, followed by a listening event with artist Hiba Ismail on Thursday 1 March, 7pm; and an evening of sound performance at Ourahmane’s home in Brixton on Friday 16 March, 7pm. On Saturday 20 January, Chisenhale Gallery programme alumni Celine Condorelli participates in A New Ethics?, a day symposium organised by Stanley Picker Gallery, with Ellen Mara De Wachter. For more details about the event and a full line up of speakers, please click here. Also on Saturday, Chisenhale Gallery programme alumni Ruth Ewan and Bookworks launch Ewan’s publication Twenty-Nine Thousand Nights: A Communist Life at Marx Memorial Library and Worker’s School. More information about the publication can be found here. Recent programme participant Hannah Black is also collaborating with Bookworks on a new series of guest edited publications, under the theme ‘Contact’, to be commissioned and published between 2018-2019.
