Thank you to everyone who joined us last Thursday for an introduction by Ellen Greig, Curator: Commissions at Chisenhale Gallery to Lydia Ourahmane’s exhibition, The you in us. The talk was followed by a listening event with Lydia Ourahmane and artist Hiba Ismail, who translated the lyrics of songs from a selection of 7-inch vinyl by Raï musician Mohamed Belkhayati. Thank you also to everyone who attended The Soundhoppers' workshop for families last Saturday. The event explored deep listening and the different properties of sound through play, using a range of soundboxes and games. All images by Sam Nightingale.
On Friday 16 March, Lydia Ourahmane hosts an evening of live sound performance at her home in Brixton. Doors open at 7pm, and performances begin at 8pm. This event has now sold out.
Chisenhale Gallery is pleased to announce that Eliel Jones, Curatorial Assistant: Commissions at Chisenhale Gallery, has curated Acts of Translation, a group exhibition at MMAG Foundation, Amman, Jordan opening on 7 March. Eliel is the 2016-18 Curatorial Assistant: Commissions at Chisenhale Gallery, an 18-month post that is part of Chisenhale Gallery’s Curatorial Trainee Programme for emerging curators, which is supported by Sirine and Ahmad Abu Ghazaleh. The exhibition includes Chisenhale Gallery programme alumni Alex Baczysnki-Jenkins, Lubaina Himid, Jumana Manna, Helen Marten, Lydia Ourahmane and Wolfgang Tillmans, among other artists.
