Chisenhale Gallery presents a new commission and the first UK solo exhibition by New York-based artist Park McArthur who works primarily in sculpture, sound and text. To accompany her exhibition McArthur has produced a new limited edition artwork for Chisenhale Gallery entitled Leads (2016).
Leads comprises five individual photographs made for McArthur’s research while preparing for her exhibition. The photographs depict Chisenhale Gallery’s interior, its hallways, doorways and thresholds, and together they evoke the experience of navigating the space – from the front entrance, through the gallery, to the office and out onto the canal which runs alongside the back of the gallery’s building.
The purpose of these images is functional rather than representational; McArthur believes their value lies in their potential to offer information. As an edition, Leads communicates McArthur's interest in the life of Chisenhale Gallery itself, and how this life is sustained by the production, and potential purchase, of an artist's edition.
