Pipilotti Rist
Slept In Had a Bath Highly Motivated
20 April 1996 – 26 May 1996
Opening: Saturday 20 April

For her first exhibition in the UK, Pipilotti Rist presents two works. The first, Der Zimmer (The Room), is a double life-sized room setting furnished with gigantic sofa, armchair, standard lamp and television with remote control. Viewers can use the large remote control to select one of Rist’s previous video pieces while sitting in comfort on a sofa and armchair.

The second work, Good Spirits Come Over Me, is a mesmerising video projection screened across three walls of the gallery. The images are accompanied by a soundtrack performed and played by Rist and A. Guggisberg. The soundtrack is the artist’s own interpretation of the Chris Issac song Wicked Game. Rist’s version is called I’m a victim of this song.

Born in 1962, Pipilotti Rist has worked in the fields of pop music, film and art. Having graduated in Audio Visual Studies in Basel, Rist went on to develop her work in video and computer technology. Her work is notable for its innovative and technically-accomplished use of new media.
