Using an arrangement of text from Chisenhale Gallery’s archive of the 1995 Absalon exhibition Cellules, Law has recomposed correspondence, documents, faxes, press cuttings and educational workshop material relating to the exhibition, to form a new text piece and performance. For more information and to reserve a place please click here.

On Tuesday 17 November, 7pm Professor Ella Shohat will give a talk titled Orientalist Genealogies: The Split Arab /Jew Figure Revisited at The Mosaic Rooms, 226 Cromwell Road, London SW5 0SW. As a response to Jumana Manna's current exhibition, Professor Shohat will offer a genealogical reading of Orientalist visual culture and its shifting imaginary of Muslims and Jews in the wake of the Enlightenment and colonialism. Patrick Staff's exhibition The Foundation was exhibited at Chisenhale Gallery in February 2015 and co-commissioned with Spike Island, Bristol; Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane; and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week at Mosaic Rooms for Professor Ella Shohat's talk Orientalist Genealogies: The Split Arab /Jew Figure Revisited. Tracing contemporary depictions of the Arab /Jewish divide back to representations in 19th century painting and photographs, Shohat provided a historical lens to consider the representation of Israel /Palestine in our current exhibition by Jumana Manna. Photos are by Manuela Barczewski. 

Please join us this Thursday 26 November at 7pm for a talk by Martin Stokes, King Edward Professor of Music at Kings College London. Stokes will explore the history of musical tradition in Palestine, with reference to the archives of ethnomusicologist Robert Lachmann and the musical performances in Jumana Manna’s film.

On Tuesday 1 December at 7pm, the artist collective Sharna Pax will present a screening and discussion as part of their ongoing research for How to work together’s 'Think Tank'. For more information and to reserve a place please click here.

In response to Jumana Manna’s current exhibition, Stokes explored the history of musical tradition in Palestine, followed by a live performance on the qanun accompanied by singer Yara Salahiddeen.
