James Bridle and Lauren Houlton

Co-editor of Universe Magazine, Lauren Houlton invites writer and artist, James Bridle, to discuss the potential relationship between the New Materialist notion of ‘Thing Power’and the increasing appearance of the visual language of digital technology in the physical world. Here Bridle’s ongoing research project The New Aesthetic will be presented in relation to the content of issue two of Universe Magazine, entitled ‘Techno-Animism’.

James Bridle lives and works in London. Recent group exhibitions include A Ship Adrift, Artangel (2012), Adhocracy, Istanbul Design Biennale (2012) and Under the Shadow of the Drone, The Brighton Festival (2013). He writes online and for newspapers and magazines, including Domus, Wired, Cabinet and the Observer. His work can be found at www.booktwo.org.

Lauren Houlton lives and works in London. She is co-editor of Universe Magazine, a bi-monthly science fiction based publication, and a member of Inland Studios. She has contributed to film screenings at Nottingham Contemporary on behalf of Universe Magazine, and will present Marvellous Morphing Machines at the Breaking Convention conference, hosted by the University of Greenwich in July, 2013. www.laurenhoulton.com
