Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency

Luke Willis Thompson is the Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency artist for 2016 -17. The residency is part of Chisenhale’s Offsite programme and is produced in partnership with Create. For his residency, Thompson develops a new body of work which reflects on the production and distribution of images in the wake of traumatic events. The residency culminates in a major solo exhibition by Thompson at Chisenhale in June 2017.

Luke Willis Thompson’s work takes place within specific social contexts, often challenging traditional forms of exhibition making. By choosing sites of historical, political or social trauma, Thompson raises pertinent issues around race, class and social inequality within his work.

Luke Willis Thompson (b. 1988 Auckland) lives and works in London. Selected solo exhibitions include Sucu Mate/Born Dead, Hopkinson Mossman, Auckland (2016); and Misadventure, IMA, Brisbane (2016). Recent and forthcoming group exhibitions include the São Paulo Biennale and Montréal Biennale (both 2016), Asia Pacific Triennial, Queensland Art Museum, Queensland and Surround Audience, New Museum Triennial, New York (both 2015).

Luke Willis Thompson's Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency (2016 - 17) is produced in partnership with Create.

With the support of Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.
