Enquire to Annotate is a new website and series of talks and workshops developed by Yuri Pattison which marks the midpoint of his new commission for the Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency 2014-16. Pattison’s work addresses the relationship of visual cultures to emerging communication technologies and metadata circulation. As an offsite project he is working in the evolving ecology of east London’s Tech City.
Pattison’s new website attempts to expose the flow of data online, challenging ideas of transparency and making apparent the usually hidden mechanics of intuitive and convenient web based services we rely on daily.
A new sculptural work is also presented. The sculpture is one of a series and acts as a node within a network of other sculptural units. Constructed from repurposed materials, it draws from the aesthetics and functionality of home built computers. The unit will include a ‘big board’ (screens often used in communal areas of shared work space) to display trending content on the project's website.
This special event launches Enquire to Annotate and takes place at Second Home in east London, a cultural venue and workspace for creative entrepreneurs. The evening will include a presentation by Pattison on the mechanisms of the website and physical works, which mirrors the aesthetics and format often used by major software developers and tech innovators.
Pattison’s presentation will be followed by a discussion with London based architect Fabrizio Ballabio. Ballabio teaches at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA), is a co-founder of art collective ÅYRBRB (fka AIRBNB Pavilion) and is part of the european research platform Factory Futures.
