For the third year of the programme, Chisenhale Gallery worked with two artists, Wajahat Hussain and Anita Safowaa.
Wajahat Hussain is a filmmaker and photographer based in South East London. His work documents his close friends as part of London’s underground queer scene. He has presented work as part of Utopian Voices Here and Now at Somerset House, London and online for i-D and the New York Times.
Anita Safowaa is a postgraduate student in MA Filmmaking at Kingston University. As a graduate of the London College of Fashion, her filmmaking is influenced by a high fashion aesthetic.
Stop Play Record was a three-year programme (2015-18) for creative young people aged between 16 - 24 years who are interested in making experimental short films. Selected from an annual open call, filmmakers worked with a range of professionals working with moving image to conceive and produce short films between 90 seconds and 3 minutes long.
Stop Play Record formed part of a joint initiative between Arts Council England and Channel 4, which saw the Institute of Contemporary Arts lead a London Network in partnership with Bloomberg New Contemporaries, Chisenhale Gallery, DAZED, Kingston University and SPACE.
